දොළුව මහජන පුස්තකාලයීය මාර්ගගත සුචිය වෙත සාදරයෙන් පිළිගනිමු
ලාංකීය සාහිත්‍යය ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳව සොයායන්නෙකුගේ සුවිශේෂ නවාතැන්පොළක් වශයෙන් ගම්පොළ රාජධානිය අවධානයට ලක්වන්නේ නිතැතිනි. පද්‍ය සාහිත්‍යය ඉතාහාසයේ පැරණිම සංදේශ කාව්‍ය ලෙස පිළිගැනෙන මයුර සංදේශයත් යම් පමණකට ගද්‍ය සාහිත්‍යය පිරිහෙමින් යන යුගයක එය නැවත නඟාසිටුවා තැබීමක් බඳුවූ සද්ධර්මාලංකාරයත් නිසා අදටත් ගම්පොළ සාහිත්‍ය යුගය සාහිත්‍යයේ සයුරේ මුතු ඇටයත් බඳුය.
ඉතිහාසයෙන් වර්තමානයටත් වර්තමානයෙන් අනාගතයටත් සාහිත්‍යකාමි පරපුරක් බිහිකිරිමේ අභිමානය හා අරමුණ පෙරදැරි කරගත් ගම්පොළ පුරවරයේ උඩපළාත ප්‍රාදේශීය සභා බල ප්‍රදේශයේ දොළුව මහජන පුස්තකාලය ඒ වෙනුවෙන් තබන පියවර ප්‍රශංසනීය වේ.
බටහිරින් මහවැලි නදියත්, නැගෙනහිරින් කොක්කාඔයත් විරාජමානව ගලාබසින්නා සේ ගම්පොළ පුරවරයේ දොළුව මහජන පුස්තකාලය එදවස පටන් අද දක්වාම ජනමන සූපෝෂිතකරන පෙරගමනක නියැලෙන දැවැන්තයෙකි.
1972.03.26 දින තොරතුරු මධ්‍යස්ථානයක් ලෙස ආරම්භ වන්නේ සාහිත්‍යමය උරුමයන් මතුපරපුරට පවරාදීමටත් දැන උගත් පරපුරක් හෙට ලොව ලස්සන කිරීමට දායාද කිරිමක් පෙරදැරිවයි.
1999.03.26 දින එවකට මධ්‍යම පළාත් සභාවේ ගරු පළාත් සභා මන්ත්‍රී ගරු නිශ්ශංක හේරත් මැතිදුන්ගේ ආරාධනයෙන් එවකට අගමැතිව සිටි දී. මූ ජයරත්න ගරු අගමැතිතුමාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් දෙමහල් ගොඩනැගිල්ලක් ලෙසට විවෘත වන දොළුව මහජන පුස්තකාලය නූතන සාහිත්‍යකාමී පරපුරේ මූලස්ථානය බවට පත්ව ඇති බව අදටත් ක්‍රියාත්මක මුතුහර ළමා සමාජය, ස්වරරංග කලායතනය, ලේඛක හවුල, මුද්දර සමාජය, කතාන්දර පැය, ජංගම පුස්තකාල සේවාව යන වැඩසටහන් සාක්ෂි දරයි. විවිධ වූ ක්‍ෂේත්‍ර ගණනාවක් ආවරණය කරන සිංහල, දෙමළ, ඉංග්‍රීසි මාධ්‍ය පොත් 10000 ඉක්මවන පොත් මෙන්ම සඟරා සහ පුවත්පත් වලින් සැදුම්ලත් අංශයන් නූතන දැනුම ගවේෂණයේ නිරතවන්නනට නොමසුරු සහායක් ලබාදෙයි.
2021 වර්ෂයේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය (ICTA) හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩලය හා එක්ව “ඩිජිටල් පුස්තකාල ව්‍යාපෘතිය” හරහා යාවත්කාලීන සංස්කරණ මුහුණුවරකින් යුත් පූර්ණ පුස්තකාල ස්වයංක්‍රීය පද්ධතියක් ද නවීන අංගෝපාංගයන් හා සේවාවන්ගෙන් ද සපිරි නව තාක්ෂණික අත්දැකිමක් සඳහා දොරටු විවර කර ඇත.
For a person who research in Srilankan literary history, Gampola Era is an important Niche. Two important literary creations, the supposed to be the oldest Srilankan poetic creation ‘Mayura Sandeshaya’ and ‘Sadhdharmalankaraya’ which was written at a time when Sinhala prose was on a declining trend, limelights tha Gampola litrary era.
The steps taken by Doluwa public library at Udapalatha regional council in Gampola city with the intention of creating a literary conscious generation from history to present and present to future is most appreciable.
Doluwa Public Library in Gampola stands as a giant from yester year upto present day, enriching public mind, surrounded by waters of Mahaweli and Kokka Oya that flows majestically.
This place was inaugurated on 26th March 1972 as a Information Centre with the intention of handing over the literary heritage to the next generations and educate them and make them worthy to the society.
On 26th March 1999, The Hon. D.M. Jayarathne then Prime Minister on the invitation of the Hon. Nissanka Herath then provincial council member of the Central Province, declared open the Doluwa Public Library in a two storied building. It paved the way to become the epicenter of the present day literary conscious generation. Still functioning ‘Muthuhara Lama Samajaya’, Swara Ranga Kala ayathanaya, Lekaka Havula, Philatelic club, Story Hour, and Mobile Library provide ample evidence for lively activities of the library. The Library with more than 10,000 books as well as newspapers and journals in all three languages Sinhala, Tamil and English give immense support for knowledge seekers.
In 2021, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country. Presently the library is fully equipped with modern electronic devices to provide digital library services to the public. Users can easily search, find, locate and hold required books through this Online Public Access Catalogue.
